Falling into Autumn

Autumn has always been my favorite time of year. It's time to put away the tank tops and flip flops and bring out the comfy sweaters and leggings. I find my favorite blanket for the sofa, grab a book and brew up an aromatic cup of tea on chilly evenings to shake off the day.

I find myself avoiding the news and instead, taking long walks to get away from the cruelty and chaos. My walks are almost always walking meditations as my senses become attuned to the sights, sounds and scents along the way. I feel a sense of lightness as my heart, mind, body and spirit all fall into alignment.

Once I return to my studio, I work on my collections of holiday cards or begin a new piece for an upcoming show. In the last couple of weeks, I have been creating images that make me laugh out loud or at least smile as they take on a life of their own. These quirky pieces are a great place for an escape.

Creating is my sanctuary. It takes my mind, body and spirit into a different plane of existence and helps me cope with the ugly realities of the world.

Creating is something I can do and what all of us can do to help make this world a better place. It's so easy to feel helpless in the current circumstances. We all can take the power of creativity and release positivity into the world. It can be as simple as baking cookies or a pumpkin pie and giving it to a neighbor or a friend. Making others smile is always a good thing. We can all make this world a better place by sharing our gifts, being grateful and knowing we are all in this together.
